Overview

What it is.

The Talon is a 2-axis, non-stabilized remote head built by Ravensclaw. It's a full broadcast head: it takes a variety of ENG lenses, with zoom, focus, and remote iris control through a standard RCP. We have the Talon, the Talon Sport, and the Talon Mini (the Talon Cinema has its own page), and we run them on our towercams, on jib arms, or on their own as standalone heads. Every one goes out with the required technicians.

The heads

Full-size to mini

The full-size head for bigger camera packages, the Mini for tight spots. All three go on a towercam, a jib arm, or a locked-off mount.

Talon

The full-size head, and the one that goes out most. It carries the larger camera and lens packages a mini head won't take, and gives a clean pan and tilt from the top of a column, the end of an arm, or locked off on the set.

Talon Sport

10.4 inches tall, 9.14 wide, 5.25 deep. The drawing is below if you need to plan the position.

Talon Mini

Where the full-size head won't fit. The head on the Academy Awards stage at the top of this page is a Mini.

Use cases

Where it goes

On top of a towercam

Sits on the column and gives a clean remote pan-tilt from height.

On the end of a jib

Rides the end of our Jimmy Jib arms for overhead and reveal moves.

Locked off in the house

Balcony rails, truss positions, and the corners of a set: anywhere the shot needs a camera that can pan and tilt, with no room for someone standing behind it.

FAQ

Common questions.

Is the Talon stabilized?

No. The Talon is a pan-tilt head without active stabilization. When a move needs stabilizing, we run an ARRI SRH-360 or a FoMa Antares instead.

What sizes do you own?

The Talon, the Talon Sport, and the Talon Mini, plus the Talon Cinema. We own and operate all of them, and run them with a Fluid Pictures technician.

What can it carry?

The full-size Talon takes larger camera and lens packages than a mini head will. Send us the camera and lens you plan to run and we'll confirm the head for it.

Can a Talon go on a towercam?

Yes. Any of them will top a towercam column, and that's where they work most, panning and tilting at height. They also run on a jib arm or a locked-off mount.

Need a remote head?

Tell us the position and the camera package, and we'll confirm which Talon fits and what it mounts to.
